The Effects of Nucleotide Bias on Genome Evolution

Is it caused by natural selections, or, is it selectively neutral? This thesis examined the source and consequences of the nucleotide compositional bias on genome evolution. We demonstrated that environmental temperature is a selective force that drives ribosomal RNA gene evolution in prokaryotes and different segments of the same gene (i.e., the stems and loops of the rRNA gene) experience differential selection. For protein coding genes, mutation and natural selection play a different role compared to the rRNA genes. We studied homologous genes and their encoded proteins in two flowering plants: Oryza sativa and Arabidopsis thaliana. The GC content of the rice genes is more heterogeneous than their Arabidopsis homologs. High GC rice genes encode proteins having a high frequency of amino acids encoded by GC-rich codons, low GC rice genes and Arabidopsis genes encode proteins having a high frequency of amino acids encoded by AT-rich codons. Synonymous codon usage in the rice genome is primarily dictated by the GC content of the genes, rather than by translational selection.","merchants_number":1,"ean":9783639191646,"category_id":103,"size":null,"min_price":55.7999999999999971578290569595992565155029296875,"low_price_merchant_id":1087639,"ID":4778372,"merchants":["dodax"],"brand":"undefined","slug":"the-effects-of-nucleotide-bias-on-genome-evolution","url":"\/unterhaltung\/produkt\/the-effects-of-nucleotide-bias-on-genome-evolution\/","low_price_merchant_name":null}

But side reactions of the electron transport chain are implemented in the generation of reactive oxygen species. These ROS are highly reactive and cause damage to biological molecules. The free radical theory of ageing hypothesizes that such damage is the primary mechanism of ageing. Therefore the search for proteins that are targets of damage is of critical importance to understand the role of oxidative stress in ageing. Proteomics combined with MS provides a powerful suite of techniques for the identification of these proteins. We focused on the development and refinement of a proteomic workflow aiming to produce a high quality quantitative survey of the mitochondrial proteome. We performed qualitative LC-MS\/MS-based experiments on mitochondria proteins by means of both gel-based and gel-free approaches, showing an over 4-fold increase in protein identifications by the latter. In addition first quantitative results were collected, yielding in the quantitation of 599 proteins, illustrating the potential of the developed method and the acquired data.","merchants_number":1,"ean":9783639278385,"category_id":103,"size":null,"min_price":47.39999999999999857891452847979962825775146484375,"low_price_merchant_id":1087639,"ID":4986935,"merchants":["dodax"],"brand":"undefined","slug":"qualitative-and-quantitative-proteome-studies-using-mass-spectrometry","url":"\/unterhaltung\/produkt\/qualitative-and-quantitative-proteome-studies-using-mass-spectrometry\/","low_price_merchant_name":null}

The average oil content of cottonseed at processing plants level is found below 15% where as elsewhere in the world it is more than 20%. Potentiality is still higher at about 25%. India needs to breed cotton varieties giving higher seed yield, higher oil, protein and lysine contents, lesser level of gossypol and linter percentage, non-shattering seeds with better resistant to mycotoxin. About 95% of cottonseed available for commercial use in India is still processed by the traditional crude method, resulting recurring loss of about 3 lakh tonnes of cottonseed oil, besides other by-products like linters and hulls. Therefore, a rigorous study on value addition and marketing of cottonseed by-products with emphasis on cottonseed oil is imparted. During a subsequent phase, maturation, Gag is processed into four proteins, matrix (MA), capsid (CA), nucleocapsid (NC) and p6. CA, the major dimerazation domain within Gag, forms the viral core that encapsulates the viral RNA and accessory proteins. Interestingly, within CA is a 20 amino acid stretch of conserved residues, the Major Homology Region (MHR), which form a tightly packed amphipathic helix. Here we have analyzed the membrane binding of the closely related EIAV MA, myristoylated HIV-1 Gag, an MHR deletion mutant of HIV-1 Gag, and a non-myristoylated form of HIV-1 Gag to determine the roles of the multiple exposure faces of MA, myristoylation, and the MHR and the viral particle assembly sequence of HIV-1. The main focus of my study is to explore the role of GPI-anchored proteins in activation of T cells. We have previously found that the GPI-anchored molecules, CD48 and CD59 behave differentially. Since CD2 has been shown to interact with CD48 in cis and trans configuration, I asked whether this interaction could be responsible for the differential behavior of CD48 and CD59. For this purpose I used the siRNA technology and down regulated CD2 and CD48 expression in Jurkat T cells. The knock- out cells showed altered recruitment of Lck, a Src family kinase (SFK) member, and LAT, a transmembrane adaptor protein (TRAP), to the TCR\/CD3, decreased IL-2 promoter activity and decreased calcium flux as compared with the normal cells. Thus, these results show that CD2 and CD48 are not only important for recruitment of Lck and LAT but that they also interplay for association of these molecules and proper signal transduction.","merchants_number":1,"ean":9783639258943,"category_id":103,"size":null,"min_price":47.39999999999999857891452847979962825775146484375,"low_price_merchant_id":1087639,"ID":4447013,"merchants":["dodax"],"brand":"undefined","slug":"role-of-cd2-and-cd48-in-recruitment-of-signaling-molecules-in-t-cells","url":"\/unterhaltung\/produkt\/role-of-cd2-and-cd48-in-recruitment-of-signaling-molecules-in-t-cells\/","low_price_merchant_name":null}

A lot of misconceptions on classification of food items into the six classes of food, function of food classes in the body and percentage composition of classes of food in a balanced diet abound amongst children ages 10-12 years old. This book therefore dealt with these misconceptions by proposing a teaching model based on social constructivist paradigm of teaching and learning which takes into cognizance students' prior knowledge of balanced diet. The developed teaching model called Teaching\/Learning Sequence (TLS) was compared with the regular teaching method (RTM) on students' conceptual understanding and practical skill acquisition of dietary knowledge. The study sample consisted of four primary schools and three secondary schools in a rural mid Wales Healthy School Scheme Award. There was a significant improvement after intervention of the (TLS) over the (RTM) during post and retention test. There was evidence of increase of consumption of healthy snack after the intervention.","merchants_number":1,"ean":9783659503429,"category_id":103,"size":null,"min_price":64.849999999999994315658113919198513031005859375,"low_price_merchant_id":1087639,"ID":4375103,"merchants":["dodax"],"brand":"undefined","slug":"social-constructivist-teaching-and-dietary-knowledge","url":"\/unterhaltung\/produkt\/social-constructivist-teaching-and-dietary-knowledge\/","low_price_merchant_name":null}

This comprehensive volume brings together the current knowledge from different relevant areas, including molecular mechanisms and translational aspects of drug resistance in AIs. Topics covered include research, experimental , and clinical data specifically focused on AI resistance in breast cancer. The volume will include three sections. The first section covers general knowledge about aromatase inhibitors, including regulation of aromatase genes, and structure and function of aromatase protein. The second section provides the detailed mechanisms of resistance to AIs, while the third section explores prediction of resistance and potential strategies to overcome resistance. Breast cancer is the most common female cancer and AIs significantly improve treatments outcomes compatibly to previously used endocrine treatments. However 10-15% of post-operative patients develop a relapse during adjuvant treatment with AIs, about 25-50% of the patients do not respond to AIs in neo-adjuvant or metastatic setting, and the majority of metastatic patients who initially respond develop resistance within 3 years. There is an important need to understand these mechanisms of resistance in order to develop methods of preventing or overcoming the resistance to AIs, which will ensure a more successful outcome ,in treating breast cancer.","merchants_number":2,"ean":9783319179711,"category_id":103,"size":null,"min_price":101.7999999999999971578290569595992565155029296875,"low_price_merchant_id":1087639,"ID":4879466,"merchants":["dodax","euniverse"],"brand":"undefined","slug":"resistance-to-aromatase-inhibitors-in-breast-cancer","url":"\/unterhaltung\/produkt\/resistance-to-aromatase-inhibitors-in-breast-cancer\/","low_price_merchant_name":null}

The nucleic acid and protein probes isolated from these viruses are therefore useful for studying the nature and expression of this normal cell gene and in elucidating the physiological role of its products. RNA tumor viruses perhaps offer us one of the most complete sets of biochemical reagents and biological responses for examining gene regulation in vertebrates and for studying the consequences of aberrant gene regulation on cell growth in tissue culture and in animals. Further more, there is an increasing conviction that virogenes play an important role in normal development and\/or differentiation (RISSER, STOCKERT and OLD, 1978). Consequently, there is a growing feeling that DNA proviruses are altered viro genes and are capable of interfering with normal development or differentiation, causing reprogrammed growth or the incapacity to specialize.","merchants_number":1,"ean":9783709185735,"category_id":103,"size":null,"min_price":62.75,"low_price_merchant_id":1087639,"ID":4145402,"merchants":["dodax"],"brand":"undefined","slug":"the-nature-and-organization-of-retroviral-genes-in-animal-cells","url":"\/unterhaltung\/produkt\/the-nature-and-organization-of-retroviral-genes-in-animal-cells\/","low_price_merchant_name":null}

Der Kohlenhydratgehalt der allermeisten Rezepte im Buch ist sogar niedrig genug f\u00fcr eine ausgewogene ketogene Ern\u00e4hrung, die s\u00e4ttigt und alle wichtigen N\u00e4hrstoffe liefert.
