Experimental diabetes was induced by single subcutaneous injection of 50mg\/kg body weight streptozotocin. After two months blood samples were collected for assessment of serum triglycerides, total, high density lipoprotein, and low density lipoprotein cholesterol, fasting blood sugar, serum insulin, intercellular adhesion molecule-1, nitrite and nitrate, plasma hydrogen peroxide, glutathione peroxidase activity and percent of DNA damage. It belongs to the genus Ricinus of Euphorbiaceae family. The castor possesses 2n = 20 chromosome numbers. It is monoecious and highly cross-pollinated crop. Castor seed contains 48 to 56 % oil. The castor oil is unique in the sense that 85-95 % composed of a single fatty acid, i.e. ricinoleic acid. Therefore, the primary objective of my doctoral research was to design membranes that limit foulant accumulation and provide an easy, chemical-free way to remove any attached foulants during the filtration of oily and other impaired waters.
