Agronomic practices for sustainable sesame yield in coastal region
Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is the oldest oilseed crop known and cultivated by man. Among the oilseed crops, sesame ranks first for having the highest oil content of 46-64 per cent and 6355 K cal per kg dietary energy in seeds. The seed of sesame is also rich in protein (20-28 %), sugar (14-16 %) and minerals (5-7 %).The specific reasons identified for the low yield of sesame in India... zur Produkt-Seite

The seed of sesame is also rich in protein (20-28 %), sugar (14-16 %) and minerals (5-7 %).The specific reasons identified for the low yield of sesame in India is due to its cultivation under sub-marginal lands without due importance to the choice of appropriate season, high yielding variety, nutrient management and new agro-technological packages. One way of increasing the productivity in sesame is by increasing the number of branches leading to increase in total number of capsules per plant. Maintaining the plant population also plays a vital role in realizing the yield potential of sesame. Possibility of cultivation of sesame in summer season under irrigated condition wherever supplemental water resource is available had not been tried or practiced by the farmers of this region. Therefore, selection of suitable variety, time of sowing, appropriate geometry and agronomic technologies are importance for increasing the productivity of sesame in this region.
["dodax

Reporter gene expression has now emerged as a new promising tool facilitating antileishmanial drug screening in vitro. In this project two chemical compounds RAPTA EA and RAPTA EAIMI and a plant extract PL-1 were screened for their antileishmanial activity against two Leishmania species, L. tropica and L. mexicana. Amphotericin B was used as a positive control to ensure the reliability of the drug assay and to act as reference for antileishmanial activity. Parasites constitutionally expressing GFP fluorescent protein were used for drug screening. The infection was quantified by the measurement of fluorescence intensity using flow cytometer. PL-1 was more effective than either RAPTA EA or RAPTA EAIMI in decreasing the percentage of infected THP-1 cells with either parasite, as it showed a lower IC50 value and it was not associated with toxicity to the THP-1 untreated cells ( 50 µg/ml).
["dodax

Prevention and early treatment is important because diabetes interrupts normal developments in children and carries the threat of severe complication in more active period of life (Agrawal et al., 2004). Camel milk is different from other ruminant milk as it is low in cholesterol, sugar and protein but high in minerals (sodium, potassium, iron, copper, zinc and magnesium), vitamin A, B2, C and E and contains a high concentration of insulin and immunoglobulins (Kamal et al., 2007 and Al-Hashem, 2009). A 30-35% reduction in daily insulin dose required by patients with type I diabetes was observed in response to treatment with raw camel milk (Agrawal et al., 2002). I.e. Meat, fish milk and egg production has also increased significantly over the 34 years, but their demand has been growing fast, and therefore, the shortage is still high. The per capita availability of food grain in Bangladesh shows considerable improvement during the recent years. The per capita availability of other crops, fruits, fish and animal product increased slowly. The results indicate that despite the improvement of the food security situation at the national level through the improvement of access to and utilization, still Bangladesh is not food secure in the sense of share of the total energy coming from protein and fat. The DRs are involved in many physiological processes and thus, deregulation in their activity led to the various mental disorders. Therefore, the DRs are attractive targets for the development of new drug molecules for the treatment of various CNS disorders. This book describes the development and validation of 3D structure model for all DR isoforms. The 3D structure model of DRs may be used in docking study to identify crucial amino acid residues involved Drug-Receptor interactions. This is turn, will contribute in the designing of novel DR agonists and antagonists. This is also helpful to understand the mechanism of activation and inhibition of these receptors. Also, the docking models will be useful In Silico activity prediction of new compounds as well as in virtual screening to identify new lead molecules.
["dodax

Glutenin protein SDS-PAGE found efficient to detect polymorphism among wheat cultivars for dough quality. Cultivars GW-273 and GW-322 showed highest Glu-1 score of 10 out of 10, indicating superior dough quality for bread making. Allele Dx5+Dy10 were found to be responsible for good dough quality. PCR based screening assay of HMW and LMW glutenin genes showed usefulness in screening of cultivars for good and poor dough quality. Sequencing of HMW-GS Dx5 gene fragment from cultivar GW-273 shows four cystiene amino acids at N-terminal end, which could play major role in determining high elasticity of dough by making disulfide linkage between them and other proteins like LMW-GS and gliadins. Although glycoscience has long been regarded as a very specialized field with no simple analytical method, the recent explosive progress in research continues to provide limitless evidence that glycan chains are the key component in various biological phenomena. Cell surface glycans, for example, change with developmental stages or environmental conditions and thus represent a “face” of the cell that is utilized for identification of iPS and ES cells and as biomarkers in diagnosis or detection of cancer. This book comprises 17 chapters, each of which poses outstanding “glyco-related” questions enabling non-specialists to have a clearer idea about what the future direction for further investigation of glycans in their own research fields will be. Thus sharp expansion of animal agriculture will be required. However, animal farming may suffer from outbreak of existing, emerging and reemerging diseases and some of them might be the lethal gift for human. Though non lethal, contagious ecthyma/ orf is a highly infectious viral disease of goats and sheep and has zoonotic potential. It is perhaps the most commonly encountered and most widespread skin disease in domestic goats and sheep worldwide. The disease occurs primarily in lambs 3-6 months of age, but also may affect older sheep. Mortality is usually low, but may affect as much as 90% of the flock. Hence, knowledge on this disease with their prevention and control is very important. This book, therefore, provides comprehensive information on the disease, its causal agent, diagnosis, prevention and control. I believe this book will be useful to students, academician, researcher, physician or anyone else who are involved in livestock production.
["dodax
