In general, Minister of State Security Erich Mielke supported the hardest possible line toward West Germany, whether as a representative of the East German Party leadership with regard to Moscow or as a supporter of Moscow’s hard line for the GDR towards West Germany within the SED regime. However, the economic weakness of the GDR and the Soviet Union, further exacerbated by the arms race with NATO and especially the U.S. in the 1980’s, led to concessions by both regimes to the West both within and outside of the CSCE process that further limited the possibilities of the MfS in terms of repressing East German dissidents. More importantly, this was also the case with regard to the growing movement to emigrate from the GDR to West Germany that had developed in response to the GDR’s signing of the CSCE Final Act in Helsinki in August 1975. Not only has there been rarely any research on how impoliteness works and when it occurs, but also the research of how people cope with impoliteness has been vastly neglected. Especially when it comes to insults people tend to pretend that they never insult anybody or even swear. Only would they insult somebody if they were insulted. Too many theories consider (im)politeness a single-turn-thing, but it gets even more interesting when it occurs in interaction. In insult situations there will always be the insulter who realizes the first insult and the insultee who receives the insult. The insultee sometimes will become an insulter as well.Why do insultees feel the urge to retaliate the insult being paid on them? Gouldner puts forward the idea of a reciprocity social norm, meaning that behavior, prosocial or anitsocial should be equally matched. Does this retaliation differ across gender? Are males or females more likely to counter with aggressive strategies? Who uses which strategy most and especially which taboo words are used in combination with insults? To investigate this field a discourse completion task has been conducted to elicit counterstrategies to insults. The informants were high school students aged between 15-19, both male and female, from a small town called Rosebud-Lott in the South-East of Texas. To understand responses to insults, the next chapter will introduce the general idea of impoliteness and shows how impoliteness, face and insults belong together. Furthermore previous studies to impoliteness and first attempts to come up with impoliteness-strategies are explained.The third chapter will give detailed information on the methodology. Why using a DCT was useful, who were the informants, how the data was collected and what the drawback of a DCT is. In the end the coding scheme will be listed and explained to understand the next chapters where the data is being analyzed. In chapter four the most interesting results will be presented and further down the line in chapter five we will discuss contradicting and striking results focusing on female and male differences which will be compared to previous studies. The man or boy with muscle dysmorphia is bombarded with obsessive thoughts that their muscles aren't big enough and feel small and weak, even though, in many cases, they may actually have large, strong muscles.The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition (DSM-IV) describes body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) as a preoccupation with a defect in appearance. The defect is either imagined or minor, but if a defect is present, the individual's concern about the defect is markedly excessive in comparison with the severity of the defect (Claiborn & Pedrick: 2002). Sufferers of Muscle Dysmorphia, like others with BDD, see parts of their body as defective. This excessive preoccupation with body size and muscularity causes the sufferer to feel small when they're actually big. In Paterson (2008), muscle dysmorphia is defined as a syndrome seen in both men and boys who feel dissatisfied with their bodies, not believing they are muscular enough. Morgan (2008) explains that at the 'root' of muscle dysmorphia is a distortion of body image. Body dysmorphia occurs almost exclusively in males and is a condition that consists of believing that one cannot be big enough (Andersen et al: 2000). In the Psychology Today magazine of 1997, it was reported that 43% of men interviewed were dissatisfied with their overall appearance, this is a dramatic increase form 15% in 1972 and 34% in 1985, so much so that Claiborn & Pedrick (2002) suggest that male body image dissatisfaction is catching up with that of women. Andersen et al. (2000) purports that more men than ever are dissatisfied with their weight, but unlike women, half of them want to get heavier, almost always in the form of increased muscle. In Phillips (2009) we discover that approximately one-quarter of men with body dysmorphic disorder are preoccupied with their overall body build. Morgan (2008) suggests that muscle dysmorphia exists at the end of a spectrum of behaviours designed to reshape the body.
