In dem handschriftlichen Werk Alessandro Certinis \u00fcber 'Uomini Illustri in Lettere Di Citt\u00e0 di Castello' wird Abbatinials 'Eccelentissimo nella professione della musica', in den 'Memorie ecclesiastiche e Civili di Citt\u00e0 di Castello' von Giovanni Muzi als hervorragender Kontrapunktiker und als Kapellmeister der ersten Basiliken Roms f\u00fcr erw\u00e4hnenswert gehalten. Giuseppe Ottavio Pitoni unternahm es als erster, Leben, Wirken und Werk Abbatinis zu beschreiben, und legte damit den Grundstein, auf dem alle sp\u00e4teren Artikel in Nachschlagewerken, Bibliographien und Gesamtdarstellungen aufbauen. Giuseppe Baini f\u00fcgte den Notizen Pitonis eigene Forschungsergebnisse - Abbatinis (von Baini vermutete) Lehrzeit bei Giovanni Maria Nanino und Palestrina, seine Anstellung an S. Giovanni in Laterano und an S. Maria Maggiore sowie die Revision der Hymnen Palestrinas unter Papst Urban VIII. betreffend - hinzu, und vermutlich lag dieses Werk Bainis sowohl F. J. F\u00e9tis als Robert Eitner als auch Giovanni Tebaldini vor, als sie die entsprechenden Beitr\u00e4ge f\u00fcr ihre Quellenwerke verfassten. Seit Pitoni und Baini geistern zwei Irrt\u00fcmer durch s\u00e4mtliche musikhistorischen Aussagen \u00fcber Abbatini: das Geburtsjahr 1595-97 und die Annahme, Abbatini sei Sch\u00fcler der beiden Nanino gewesen. Den einen Irrtum versuchte Lorenzo Bianconi zu berichtigen, der die 'Autobiographie' Abbatinis fand und daraus das Geburtsjahr 1610 entnahm. Auch die Artikel 'Abbatini' in neueren Nachschlagewerken st\u00fctzen sich im Wesentlichen auf Baini, ber\u00fccksichtigen aber auch die Forschungsergebnisse aus Spezialuntersuchungen zum Thema Barockoper. Eine umfassende Monographie des Komponisten liegt bisher nicht vor. F. Coradini ver\u00f6ffentlichte 1922 Dokumente aus den Archiven in Citt\u00e0 di Castello, die sowohl das Leben - Taufe, Hochzeit - als auch die T\u00e4tigkeit Abbatinis in dieser Stadt betreffen. Abbatinis Wirken an den r\u00f6mischen Kirchen Il Ges\u00f9, S. Maria Maggiore und S. Luigi dei Francesi wird in Monographien \u00fcber deren Kapellen mehr oder weniger ausf\u00fchrlich dargestellt und die betreffenden Dokumente werden teilweise ver\u00f6ffentlicht, w\u00e4hrend Abbatinis T\u00e4tigkeit an diesen Kapellen in Hinblick auf seine Mitgliedschaft in der Accademia di S. Cecilia, der Berufsgenossenschaft der Musiker Roms, im Rahmen einer Monographie dieser Vereinigung beleuchtet wird. Obwohl Abbatini in erster Linie Kirchenmusiker war, ist \u00fcber seine geistliche Musik kaum etwas zu lesen: Selbst in Gesamtdarstellungen der Epoche wird Abbatini gew\u00f6hnlich als Opernkomponist behandelt; lediglich August W. Ambros w\u00fcrdigt ihn als 'polychorischen Komponisten' und 'Hauptvertreter des polychoren Stils in Rom' - zweifellos aufgrund der Aussagen Bainis, da nur ein einziges polychorales Werk Abbatinis fragmentarisch erhalten ist. Mit Abbatinis Oper 'Dal male il bene' - in dem grundlegenden Werk Alessandra Ademollos \u00fcber Oper in Rom nur am Rande erw\u00e4hnt - hat sich zum ersten Mal Hugo Goldschmidt ausf\u00fchrlich befasst. In seiner Analyse des 'Dramatischen' - der musikalischen Verwirklichung des dramatischen Konzepts - kommt Goldschmidt zu dem Schluss, dass durch die 'F\u00f6rderung des seccorecitativischen Stils' und durch die 'Einigung der Handelnden zum Ensemble' (Goldschmidt schreibt Abbatini die Institution des Opernfinales zu) mit dieser Komposition 'Fortschritte von ungeheurer Bedeutung f\u00fcr die Opera buffa' gemacht wurden. Goldschmidt ver\u00f6ffentlicht ausser einer ausf\u00fchrlichen Inhaltsangabe auch Ausschnitte der Partitur.
