Protein-Energy Malnutrition and Malaria Antibody Profiles

Protein Energy Malnutrition and malaria are major health problems especially in the developing world as well as the Tropics.This book describes the need to determine the relationship between the two health problems and develop possible biochemical and immunological diagnostic tools for them. The book further describes the use of specific malaria antibody profiles: Circumsporozoite Surface Protein (CSP), Liver Stage Antigen (LSA) and Merozoite Surface Protein (MSP)as possible diagnostic tools based on data obtained from field and laboratory work carried out in an area of high malaria endemicity in Western part of Kenya.The specific Plasmodium Falciparum antibody profiles studied could accurately be used to determine the association between Malaria and various forms of protein-Energy Malnutrition that include: Stunting, Underweight as well as Wasting....
