In this piece of work, an attempt has been made to bring out the challenges and hardships of blowing the whistle that include the driving force motivating an employee to speak of the wrong doings in an organization, situations faced while reporting up or out, and most importantly, testing the ¿intent¿ of the whistleblower. With this introduction, the study delves into the analysis of the extent to which whistleblowers are protected in United States of America today, covering three major legislations of the country. It is imperative not to overlook the role of a lawyer as a whistleblower. Every organization has a legal unit to deal with the internal compliance issues which means the legal cell has a pro-active and responsible role to protect its reputation and best interests.
