Performance of Beet root

The table beet or beet root (Beta vulgaris L.) has been an important crop for millennia, with its first written appearance in 8th century BC Mesopotamia. It is a member of the Chenopodiaceae family, which is now included in Amaranthaceae family and believed to have originated from Germany. Beet root is a biennial crop although commercially cultivated as annuals. It produces green tops and a swollen root during its first growing season and flowers and seeds in second year. It is rich in protein, carbohydrates, minerals and Vitamins and usually cooked for vegetable purpose and is commonly used with radish or carrot in salads.
