Otto Gutfreund

Otto Gutfreund (3 August 1889 2 June 1927) was a Czech-Czechoslovak cubist sculptor. He is acknowledged by the art historian Douglas Cooper to be the author of the first cubist sculpture: Anxiety (Úzkost in Czech), created in 1911 and exhibited in Paris in 1912. Otto Gutfreund was born in the town of Dv r Králové nad Labem, Bohemia, as the 4th of 5 children of Karel and Emilie Gutfreund. During 1903 1906 he studied at kola výtvarných um ní (School of Creative Arts) in the town of Bechyn .
