The population was 7,958 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Sandusky, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area. Huron was at the center of the "Firelands" of the Connecticut Western Reserve, lands offered to residents of Connecticut who had lost property to British raiders during the American Revolutionary War.
