Benzoylation and phthalation of chitosan in homogeneous conditions was also achieved.By modifying the chitosan with different reagents, new desired chemical and physical properties can be induced which will enlarge the field of the potential applications. Blends of chitosan and cellulose were successfully prepared using BMIMAc as a common solvent.The rheological measurements of the polymeric solutions indicated the formation of a complex between chitosan and cellulose molecules. Films prepared from the polymeric solutions were investigated by means of FT-IR, TGA, X-ray diffraction and SEM measurements.
