Analysis and Measurement on Terrestrial DTV Radio-Wave Coverage

Over a decade, the DVB-T system has been widely usedfor transmission of terrestrial DTV programs. Acomplete set of field measurement and analyzingscheme is essential for verifying if the DTV signalsare effectively received by local consumers. Withoutsuch criteria, severe impact would arise on thedevelopment of DTV industry, especially in the areaswhere topographic and geographic conditions are toocomplicated to allow effective reception of DTVsignals. This work provides field measuring methodsand analyzing schemes on the coverage rates ofoutdoor and indoor DTV signals. A block-proportionedanalyzing scheme is invented to calculate thecoverage rates of indoor signals. A picture-layeranalyzing method is created to compute the coveragerates of outdoor signals along with a softwaresimulator. These efforts produce working schemes andidentify propagation models feasible under variousenvironments, and define the relations of the fieldstrengths between outdoor and indoor receptions.
